WALLACE — The Lady Miners had plenty of shots, but it wasn’t in the cards for them last week when they fell to the Priest River Spartans 35-31.

A game played just before the holiday break, both teams were looking to get a win before the long weekend, and both teams showed up to compete.

The Spartans used their size and speed to force the Miners into some sloppy play, but Wallace was able to overcome their own mistakes and keep the game close.

Trailing 16-14 at the half, the Miners were stunned in the third quarter as Priest River went on a big run to open the half and took a 29-21 lead headed into the final frame.

Wallace would clamp down defensively while putting together their best quarter of the game, but it was too little too late as the Miners came up short in their home opener.

Coach Nichole Farkas was proud of her team’s effort, but saw a few things she would like to correct before they meet up again.

“We struggled with our turnovers,” Farkas said. “When we settled into our transition we had some good ball movement. We are definitely looking forward to the rematch.”

Freshman Jaden House led the Miners with 10 points.
