GEORGE - Five people were injured in a two-vehicle collision north of George on Tuesday.

About 6:20 p.m. Sue Field, 48, of George, was driving a 1999 Dodge Durango east on Beverly Burke Road, about 1.6 miles north of George, when she allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and entered state Route 281. The Durango was struck by a Lincoln Mark LT pickup truck driven by Benito Montoya, 51, of Royal City, who was traveling south on SR-281. The vehicles came to a rest blocking the intersection, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Field, Montoya and his three passengers, Fermina Medina, 51, of Royal City, Reina Montoya, 51, of Royal City, and a three-year-old boy, were injured in the collision. Field was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for treatment. The injured occupants in the pickup were taken to Quincy Valley Medical Center for treatment.

The cause of the collision is under investigation and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation. The patrol reports drugs and/or alcohol played a role in the collision.
