Holiday events help entertainment scene sparkle

SANDPOINT — What a month it’s been — and continues to be — as the entertainment scene lights up for the season.
Always a biggie is the Kinderhaven Festival of Trees, which starts this evening with family night. The Backcountry Film Festival gets rolling Friday at The Hive, Keith Greeninger is in concert at DiLuna’s and the Panida is packed with movies all week.

Thursday, Nov. 29
Kinderhaven Festival of Trees Family Night
Venue: Bonner County Fairgrounds, 4203 N. Boyer, in Sandpoint.
Time: 4-6 p.m.
Get a peek at the beautifully decorated trees, have your picture taken with Santa and enjoy some cookies and hot chocolate.
All proceeds from these events will go to Kinderhaven, a group foster home and emergency shelter for abused and neglected children.

‘The Mercy’
Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.
Time: 7:30 p.m.
‘The Mercy’ is the story of Donald Crowhurst’s dangerous solo voyage around the world and the struggles he confronted on the epic journey.

‘Nutcracker & the Four Realms’
Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.
Time: 1:30 p.m.
This family fantasy adventure film transports a young girl into a magical world of gingerbread soldiers and an army of mice.

Trivia Takeover
Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.
Time: 6-8 p.m.
A fun event for the winery, come check out the trivia action. Teams encouraged, but not required.

Friday, Nov. 30
Kinderhaven Festival of Trees Holiday Luncheon
Venue: Bonner County Fairgrounds, 4203 N. Boyer, in Sandpoint.
Time: 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Doors open at 11 a.m. with silent auction bidding from 11 a.m.-noon. Lunch will be served family style around 12:15 p.m. and the event will conclude by 1:30 p.m.

Venue: DiLuna’s Cafe, 207 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.
Time: Doors open at 6 p.m. for dinner and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

Backcountry Film Festival
Venue: The Hive, 207 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.
Time: 6 p.m.
This 14th annual fundraiser for Selkirk Outdoor Leadership and Education (SOLE) is not only a celebration of the coming of ol’ man winter, it’s also a novel way to raise essential funds to ensure that local area youth have the opportunity to explore and learn in their winter wildlands.
SOLE will be offering a youth-specific kids’ event starting at 5 p.m. at Evans Brothers Coffee.

Christmas Concert with Pianist Del Parkinson
Venue: Hope Memorial Community Center, 415 Wellington Pl., in Hope.
Time: 6 p.m.
Pianist Del Parkinson will perform classical Christmas tunes as well as some other classics along with commentary. Cookies and beverages will be served.

‘Holiday Ball’ Dance
Venue: Ponderay Events Center, 401 Bonner Mall Way
Time: 7-10 p.m.
This holiday themed dance will feature live music by the Variety Pack Band and starts with a waltz lesson taught by a local professional instructor from 7- 8 pm, followed by general dancing, refreshments, door prizes, mixers, and an overall great time. Please bring an appetizer to share and a donation of non-perishable food for the Bonner Community Food Bank. Singles and couples are welcome.
