Dinner raises nearly $900 for local singer

A spaghetti dinner and silent auction held Wednesday at Libby High School raised around $890 toward helping Libby senior Sophie Lee with the cost for her trip to perform at Carnegie Hall in February.
Nora Berry, who works in the cafeteria, said that she came up with the idea to help out Lee after hearing about her need to raise $3,000 to cover the cost of the trip and her participation in the High School Honors Performance Series.
Lee was one of 200 chosen to perform in a choir that will sing at Carnegie Hall in February.
Berry who, along with her “other half” Dusty Price, bought all the food and supplies for the spaghetti dinner, said that some donated as much as $40 to help Sophie on her way.
“She’s just so sweet and pleasant that you feel good helping her out and doing something for her,” Berry said. “She’s just such a beautiful young lady. I’ve heard her sing at concerts. She’s got a voice of an angel.”
Prior to the dinner, Lee had estimated that she was about halfway to her $3,000 goal. Those who would still like to donate can send money care of Lee’s mother, Sandra Douthit, to her shop at 513 Mineral Avenue, Libby.
