Oct. 2, 1968 — PROUDLY WE SALUTE

2 Lt. J.K. Venishnick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Venishnick, Sandpoint, recently graduated from the U.S. Army Engineer Officer Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, Va., and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Military Intelligence Corps. Lt. Venishnick will now be assigned to the U.S. Army Military Intelligence School, Fort Holabird, Md., for further training.

JUNIOR HIGH NEWS

Monday students voted for the cheer leaders for the coming school year. Elected were: ninth grade — Lynn Snedden, Gail Walker, Colleen Garvey and mascot, Sue Hansen; eighth grade — Kristi Chronic, Patti Knaggs; seventh grade — Shirla Cunnington, Janet Snedden.

ANNE EAKIN PLEDGED BY SORORITY

Anne Eakin, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. L.F. Eakin, 521 Alder, has been pledged to Delta Delta Delta national sorority at Whitman College, Walla Walla. Miss Eakin was salutatorian of the SHS class of 1968.

MARY ANN TRAVERS AT HOLY NAMES

Mary Ann Travers, a freshman resident student at Holy Names Academy, Spokane, was one of 20 students honored Sept. 26 at the quarterly birthday dinner. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.N. Travers, Sandpoint.

Oct. 2, 1918 — POSTPONE ENTRAINMENT

The epidemic of influenza over the country is responsible for the postponement of the October call of drafted men until further orders. This general order published through the press has been confirmed by telegraphic orders from the provost marshal general.

TO CUT OUT TEXTBOOKS

The school board last Wednesday decided to destroy the history textbook of the sixth grade on account of pro-German leanings.

It was voted also to purchase lumber for a scaling wall to be used in the military drill of the high school boys, and the matter of building a one-room addition to the Ponderay school was left with the grounds and building committee.
