The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks fall to the Bigfork Vals during their Homecoming varsity volleyball match-up last week. Match scores were 18-25, 25-10, 25-21, 25-27 and 15-11.

The Lady Hawks fought hard through four tough sets that saw a fifth set come to play before falling to visiting Bigfork.

Head coach Sandra Kazmierczak said though her team lost the match, the Lady Hawks fought hard throughout.

There were plenty of solid rallies that came between the two teams with some impressive plays on the net from both sides.

Though they lost a couple of rallies the home side certainly read plays well as they alternated from power hits to strategic bumps to change up the offensive drive.

Lady Hawk Scarlette Schwindt had been fighting an injury most of the match; however, she did secure more than just a few power serves that resulted in getting points on the board. In the final set, though, she lost power to her shoulder after her final seven of the game and finished the game on the bench — unable to continue the fifth set.

Kazmierczak said that she would be monitoring Schwindt over the next week, but was confident she wouldn’t have much time on the sidelines.

Although they took the close loss, Kazmierczak said she was happy with how her team played on the court.

”We have a young team with good all-around players,” she said. “We didn’t finish our game and were a little slow at the start but they are learning and we’re looking good.”

As she continues to get the team tighter with their play, it looks as though the Lady Hawks will be a solid dominating team as they continue to grow.

Thompson Falls will host Mission on Thursday, and plays at Troy on Saturday.
