Flathead and Montana Audubon societies are sponsoring a free wetlands ecology hike led by Brian Baxter of Silver Cloud Associates Outdoor Educational Programs on Oct. 13.
The slow-paced, moderate 2.5-mile hike into the Owen Sowerwine riparian wetlands will provide opportunities to hear and see migrating birds of prey, waterfowl, woodpeckers and songbirds; to see tracks and other signs of wildlife including members of the weasel, canid and felid families; and to seek amphibians, reptiles, and turtles.
The group meets 9 a.m. at the Montessori School at 349 Willow Glen Dr. in Kalispell. Call for directions at 406-755-3826 if needed. Return time will be 2:30 p.m.
Participants should bring lunch, water, binoculars or spotting scopes, layers of clothing and hiking boots.
