WALLACE — The Shoshone County Concert Association is launching their fall series of concerts next week with Matthew Ball, also known as The Boogie Woogie Kid, at Wallace Jr./Sr. High School.

Ball will be joined by drummer Victor Pruner to present a fun lineup of piano, song and boogie-n-blues favorites from the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s.

The SCCA has been putting on concerts since 1942 and once again has a lineup of fun and family oriented musical performances in the Silver Valley.

The organization believes that concerts like these are vital to the culture of a community and have been working hard for 76 years to make music available to the citizens of Shoshone County, while not stepping on the toes of other groups and events that promote music.

“We strive to supplement the other musical offerings in the area, though some overlap of genres, and occasionally musicians, occurs,” SCCA member Kathy Vang said. “The summer festivals bring in audiences well beyond the Silver Valley and typically provide instruction, jam sessions and other features. The weekend musical events in several local food/drink establishments provide the types of music currently most popular in the area. SCCA’s concerts are the primary feature, rather than sometimes being background. We bring in professional musicians during the time when residents are at work or in school, rather than on vacation. Our concerts allow residents to enjoy a variety of musical entertainment without the time and expense of traveling to Coeur d’Alene or Spokane. We search for a mix of genres and find our attendees especially appreciate having a variety of ethnic-based music.”

The association is run by volunteers from the local area.

SCCA’s mission is to provide and increase interest in good music in the Silver Valley and nearby communities.

It produces a few concerts each year by professional musicians for the enjoyment of residents of the Silver Valley and nearby areas, though anyone can attend.

“Most of our ensembles are touring, though we also contract with musicians from the Moscow-Lewiston area, Spokane, Missoula and the Seattle area,” Vang said.

The Matthew Ball concert is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at WHS.
