SANDPOINT — A registered sex offender awaiting trial in Bonner County for sexual battery of a teen was sentenced Friday to more than 30 years in prison, according to Oregon corrections officials.
A jury in Washington County convicted Michael Henry Forker of six counts of sexual abuse of varying degrees and three counts of sodomy in August.
Forker received three 100-month terms on the sodomy counts and a 75-month term for first-degree sexual abuse, in addition to five 36-month terms for sexual abuse in the second and third degrees. Most of the sentences run consecutively to one another, although several were to run concurrently, resulting in a 411-month term, which works out to be 34 1/4 years. He was also given an unspecified amount of credit for time served while awaiting trial.
Forker, 40, was accused of sexually abusing a homeless teenager in 2002, according to a Beaverton Valley Times news report. Prosecutors argued that Forker preyed on the vulnerable teen after a painful experience coming out as homosexual.
Forker, a Sagle resident, relocated from Idaho to Oregon to carry out the abuse and began volunteering at homeless youth shelter, where he applied to be a residential counselor for teen boys, authorities said.
Forker was awaiting trial in Bonner County on two counts of sexual battery of a child and possession of child pornography, offenses which date back to 2017. The alleged victim, 17, testified at a preliminary hearing that Forker offered to buy him gifts if Forker was allowed to perform sex acts on him, an arrangement which led to two encounters in a Sandpoint office and Forker’s home.
Forker was scheduled to stand trial in 1st District Court last month.
Forker registered as a sex offender in Idaho after he was convicted of 10 counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in Oregon in 2009, according to the state registry.
