Flathead and Montana Audubon societies are sponsoring a free wetlands ecology hike led by Brian Baxter of Silver Cloud Associates Outdoor Educational Programs on Oct. 13.

The slow-paced, moderate 2.5-mile hike into the Owen Sowerwine riparian wetlands will provide opportunities to hear and see migrating birds of prey, waterfowl, woodpeckers and songbirds and more. No dogs allowed.

The group meets 9 a.m. at the Montessori School at 349 Willow Glen Dr. in Kalispell. Call for directions at 406-755-3826 if needed. Return time will be 2:30 p.m.

Participants should bring lunch, water, binoculars or spotting scopes, layers of clothing and hiking boots.
