Millions of youth, parents, volunteers and alumni across the country are celebrating National 4-H Week during this first full week of October.

Sanders County 4-Hers will be no different as they will leverage off 4-H Week this year by showcasing the incredible experiences that the organization offers young people. They will also highlight the remarkable 4-H youth in our community who work hard each day striving to make a positive impact on those around them.

“In 4-H, if you can dream it, you can do it! 4-H offers more than 200 different project and learning experiences that actively engage youth while having fun,” said Juli Thurston, Sanders County 4-H Extension Agent in a news release. “4-H projects rely on trained adult volunteers who work with youth as partners and a resource for hands-on learning. From going to camp, being a club officer, learning how to cook or sew, to raising an animal, conservation and robotics. 4-H offers you a wide range of choices and opportunities to learn and grow.”

NO MATTER where you turn, there is usually the encounter with a 4-H alumni who acknowledge a significant positive impact the organization had on them as young people.

Furthermore are the abundance of opportunities and experiences that 4-H can provide youth, empowering them to become true leaders.

“In fact, research has shown that young people in 4-H are almost four times as likely to contribute to their communities, and are twice as likely to engage in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs in their free time,” explained Thurston.

In Sanders County, more than 150 4-H youth and 50 volunteers from the community are involved in 4-H.

Even if your child is not interested in the raising stock, there are a multitude of options in which they can take part. The organization can help foster most any interest a child may have from cooking to photography to wood working.

4-H clubs throughout Sanders County will be conducting open house events, displaying posters while wearing their 4-H shirts.
