The Banff Mountain Film Festival World tour is coming to Sandpoint’s Panida Theater for a “4th Night” of separate films on Saturday, Oct. 13. With 1,100 screenings world-wide, the Sandpoint area audience will be one of only 12 venues that will have a “4th night” of films to view.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. with films beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are available in Sandpoint at Eichardt’s, The Alpine Shop, Burger Express and The Outdoor Experience. Tickets are also available in Bonners Ferry at Burger Express. Online tickets can be purchased on the Panida Theater website at http://bit.ly/2NxjrwN. Tickets left, if any will be sold at the door. Tickets are $16 in advance and $19 at the door. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to support locally the North Idaho Mountain Sports Education Fund that gets local area kids on the ski hill learning the joy of sport.

For this “4th Night” of films for the 2018 season a strong lineup of eight new and different films is being presented providing a full line-up of diverse mountain culture, quirky characters as well as strong human interest stories including American skier Aaron Rice who sets out to ski 2.5 million, human powered vertical feet in the release “2.5 Million”. In the film “My Irnik”, Conor, a man from Montreal falls in love with a woman from the north and teaches their son the indigenous traditions that form their Far North Canadian way of life. From South Africa a bike race takes place, not on the latest carbon fiber bikes but instead vintage steel bicycles crossing 500 miles of desert in the film “Tour or Ara”. Art and sport collide when mountain biker Micayla Gatto takes the viewer into her world as a painter and combines it all with her passion for sport in the film “Interesection: Micayla Gatto”.

Local tour host Michael Boge stated that with the demise of the popular Radical Reels program at the end of 2017 additional films were then added to the World Tour, so many that it just seemed a shame to not add one more night of films for North Idaho audiences. Boge said Sandpoint hosted three full nights last January.

“These are all these other excellent choices that could not be shown,” he said. “With that and a request for one more night in October it is exciting to know that these films will also have a chance to be viewed. It is a first-rate program on deck.”

The Banff Mountain Film Festival is an inspiring international film competition featuring the world’s best footage on mountain subjects. The original festival which began in 1976 is held annually on the first weekend in November in Banff, Alberta. In 1986, The Banff Mountain Film Festival began an outreach program to bring the festival to other communities, touring to a total of three cities across Canada. As previous attendees know, the World Tour provides a first class film experience, in a local venue for those who cannot make the annual trek to the Canadian Rockies that now tours to hundreds of cities worldwide.

This year marks the 22nd year that the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour has come to the Sandpoint area.
