Cross country team preps for district rivals

BONNERS FERRY — On Oct. 6, the Badgers cross country teams had an early 4 a.m. start on their trek to compete at Lewiston Orchards, in Lewiston, Idaho.
Madi McIntyre had to run in the girls JV race due to missing last week’s Sandpoint race for family obligations.
“She ran very well and analytical and had a great personal record (PR) as a result,” said coach Tyler Warner.
With illnesses, injuries, and absences, Emily Gorino and Camille Ussher were the only Badger girls to run in the varsity race.
“They ran together for most of the race and both had PRs, though they did not run their best overall race in our opinion,” said Warner.
Duncan McKechnie also ran well during the race, also setting a personal record.
“Boys varsity struggled to keep up with Priest River, which sets us up for a bit of a showdown at districts,” said Warner. “We’ve been inconsistent down the stretch, especially in our third to fifth runners on both teams.”
With high hopes for success in today’s race against Kellogg and upcoming Districts on Oct. 18, Warner said, “We’re in a tough league this year, so we’ll have to rise to the occasion if we want to go to state.”
