MOSES LAKE — The Grant County Health District wants everyone in the county to get their flu shots this fall.

“The fall brings crisp mornings, colorful leaves, and holiday travel plans,” said Heather Massart, public information officer for the Grant County Health District. “Don’t invite the unwelcomed visitor, flu, to your family’s holiday gathering.”

“Flu activity has started to pick up in Washington state, so now is a good time to get the vaccine and protect you and your family,” Massart continued.

According to a health district news release, quantities of influenza vaccine have finally arrived in Grant County. The district advises all county residents age 6 and older, especially those at higher risk, to get a flu shot as soon as possible.

People with asthma, diabetes, chronic lung disease or chronic heart disease, infants, pregnant women and those over 65 are at higher risk for getting the flu or complications of the flu.

“People who haven’t been vaccinated against flu still have time to get the vaccine before the season reaches its peak,” Massart said.

The flu vaccine is available in various locations, including health care provider offices and pharmacies, and is covered by many insurance plans. For more information, or to find a clinic that provides flu shots, call Family Health Hotline at 1-800-322-2588 or the health district at 509-766-7960.
