The Mirror Lake Ladies Golf Association celebrated the closing of their 2018 season with a “Diamonds and Denim” wind-up dinner Wednesday evening, Oct. 3, at the Mirror Lake Golf Club. The evening provided the occasion for socializing, fun, and a great dinner courtesy of Manager Ralph Lotspeich and his staff, and the award of the year-end prizes to this season’s stand out lady golfers!
The top prize was for Club Champion, 2018, won by Julie Williams with her low gross of 39. The low net winners were Renee Murphy and Gerry Ann Howlett, each with 34.5. Low average gross, Flight A, went to Julie Williams with 41, and in Flight B, to Renee Murphy with 59.8. Low average net, Flight A went to Maureen Blackmore with 36.7, and in Flight B to Carrie Figgins with 39.9. Most improved (Ringer Board award) went to Ruth Ann Wilson who started the season with an 84 and ended it with a bang with 49! Lowest average putts winners were Karen English in Flight A, with 16.1 and Etta Mae Schneurle in Flight B with 17.3 Julie Williams won Closest to Par, Flight A, with 33 and Renee Murphy won Closest to Par, Flight B with 41. Blanche Studer won the award for “Most Games Played, 2018,” with 25! Congratulations winners!
For the mini-Impossible Tournament played Wednesday morning, Gerry Ann Howlett came out on top with her low gross score of 51. Gerry Ann and Carrie Figgins tied for low net with really amazing scores of 41 each, given the circumstances. Gerry Ann, Ada Gardiner and Anne Bonar all had chip ins on Hole #1, meaning that luck finally took over at some point and the ball dropped. We didn’t count putts because that was for the most part what was so impossible about the tournament, since Manager Ralph Lotspeich selected special pin placements that would defy the most talented golfer on any of the pro circuits, let alone the Mirror Lake ladies!
We are sad to see the season end, but look forward to our next season, 2019 when we can do it all again and possibly get revenge for the indignities of the tournament wind-up. The Mirror Lake ladies encourage all interested lady golfers to come and join us for some friendly sporting fun in the lush surroundings of our own Mirror Lake Golf Course. Our season starts on the first Wednesday in May. Come look us up. We love meeting new golfers and welcoming new members!
