“Roosevelt Dime combines elements of folk, pop, rock, blues, R&B and bluegrass, but the songs reflect unique combinations of those sounds,” wrote critic Richard Brody last year.

And, it’s Roosevelt Dime’s diversity in music genre that caught the eye of Pend Oreille Arts Council’s Performing Arts Committee and in partnership with Mattox Farm Productions resulted in this not-to-be-missed performance.

Coming to the Panida on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m., Roosevelt Dime’s Americana-focused performance is bound to electrify the audience as no band has before.

Roosevelt Dime blends syncopated New Orleans rhythms, boogie woogie, banjo, swinging blues guitar and searingly soulful vocals. Named for a coin that has been in circulation since 1946, and trusting these up-to-date musicians weren’t born then, one can only speculate that perhaps their original music has been influenced by the past and will inspire genres of the future.

Roosevelt Dime co-founders Andrew Green (five-string banjo/backup vocals) and Eben Pariser (lead vocals, electric guitar/harmonica) met at Oberlin College in Ohio where they balanced academics at one of the country’s finest musical conservatories with playing in folk and blues bands. Relocating to Brooklyn, N.Y., and adding Tony Montalbano (drums/backup vocals) and later Craig Akin (upright bass) to the mix, the band followed a time-honored tradition of busking in the streets, parks, and subways.

As all walks of life assembled to watch, listen and contribute, the musicians honed in their lively mix of jug band irreverence and Dixieland exuberance for a fast-paced audience of transient New Yorkers seeking to share a moment of positivity and spontaneity.

POAC and Mattox Farm Productions is thrilled to have Roosevelt Dime headline this season premiere event and is equally excited to have local band BareGrass open the evening. BareGrass features John Edwards on bass, Luke Levesque on mandolin and Jared Johnston on guitar. They write all their own songs and are getting a reputation around town as being an up-and-coming bluegrass trio.
