Sandpoint Elks Lodge No. 1376 has announced students of the month for the first part of the school year for the Lake Pend Oreille School District.

To be selected as an Elks student of the month, students must meet guidelines for character, citizenship, service, scholarship and leadership.

The Elks actively seek to reward youth through many different programs including scholarship awards, Hoop Shoot tournaments, dictionary donations to third graders, drug awareness programs and many other activities and programs.

Sandpoint Elks Lodge award thousands of dollars in scholarships and local students also received an additional money in state and national Elk scholarships. The Elks are the third largest awarder of scholarships in the county and several students have received large scholarships from the state and national level of Elks.

Among those honored were:

• Benjamin Robinson, Sandpoint High School

The son of Ryan Robinson and Jennifer Robin-son, Benja-min Robinson was named an Elks student of the month for September at Sandpoint High School.

He has participated in cross country and have competed in pole vault in track for four years. In addition, he has been in the Men’s Performing Choir for four years. During his junior year, he started and lead a Men’s Quartet, and we are continuing to practice, perform, and hopefully compete. He has been in Student Council since his sophomore year, and is serving as Associated Student Body president.

As a junior, he was awarded the second Bass Vocalist in the state of Idaho. He has also worked as a ski and snowboard instructor for four years and have certification in both disciplines from national organizations.

He is ranked fifth in my class. His unweighted GPA is a 3.98 and my weighted GPA is a 4.32.

• Corinne Capodagli, Sandpoint High School

The daughter of Jenn and Bill Capodagli, Corinne Capodagli was named an Elks student of the month for Septem-ber at Sand-point High School.

Capo-dagli is the captain of the Sandpoint High School Academic Decathlon team and serves as vice president of the SHS National Honors Society chapter. She also is editor-in-chief of Cedar Post and is a member of the school’s Math Club.

She is 11th in her class of 219 students and has a 4.311 grade point average.

• Lillian Simko, Clark Fork High School

The daughter of Denis and Molly Simko of Hope, Lily Simko was named an Elks student of the month for September at Clark Fork High School.

is a senior at Clark Fork High School. She holds a 4.0 GPA, is currently taking dual enrollment classes at NIC, and was honored as a Regional Top Scholar.

Simko has played varsity basketball and tennis throughout high school, making it to state tennis last year. Her independent track pursuits at CFHS have been in equestrian therapy and studies, as well as acupuncture.

In her free time, she loves to spend time outdoors, read, and participate in horse 4-H.

• Grace Shelton, Clark Fork High School

The daughter of Chris and Jenny Shelton and the loving big sister of Nathan and Eloise Shelton, Grace Shelton has been named an Elks student of the month for September at Clark Fork High School.

Although she said she is excited to be a senior at Clark Fork High School, she is also thankful for the opportunity to be dual enrolled at North Idaho College and is taking a full load of college classes at the Sandpoint satellite campus. With guidance from the caring staff at CFHS, Shelton’s perseverance and strong work ethic have helped to pave this early road to higher education and she is excited about the variety of new possibilities ahead.

She enjoys many extracurricular activities and is a valued member of her small community. As a three-sport athlete, she has lettered every year, often selflessly playing on both JV and varsity when her teams needed her. She has been voted Most Inspirational Player by both coaches and players numerous times.

She was honored to represent her school and community as she competed in both volleyball and tennis at state. Volleyball, basketball, and tennis have been a valuable part of her life. And although she weathered a tough ACL knee injury this fall, she still looks forward to playing sports at the collegiate level.

Grace is also the president of her local 4-H club and has completed 10 fun and rewarding years of Horse 4-H. She earned a spot on the National Horse Judging team that competed in Columbus, Ohio, last Fall. Grace is the founding member of the CFHS Equestrian Club and enjoys mentoring young riders.
