CF volleyball team raises awareness, funds

During the Clark Fork varsity volleyball match on Monday, Oct. 8, the Lady Mountain Cats presented Mary Jo Lommen a check. They were dressed in pink T-shirts with “We Play 4 Judi” inked on the front. The check was for Judi Haskins and her family to help with medical expenses from her recent diagnosis of breast cancer.
Lommen is Judi’s mother-in-law and expressed sincere appreciation for the support the team has given to Judi and to their bringing awareness to cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. More than $750 was raised by the team through bake sales and a silent auction. The Haskins family lives in Bozeman and her niece, Taylor Haskins, plays for the Clark Fork team.
Judi was diagnosed with lobular carcinoma in July and is currently undergoing radiation treatment after having a double-mastectomy. She is married to Ryan Haskins, who graduated from Superior High School in 1994. Judi, whose maiden name is Beckendorft, graduated from Plains High School in 1991.
Judi was unable to attend the match on Monday, but expressed her gratitude and was honored that the team was supporting her and her family, which includes three girls — ages 9, 5 and 2.

Mineral County sends tax bill to Forest Service
The Forest Service will be receiving a property tax bill from Mineral County this year. County Commissioners Laurie Johnston, Roman Zylawy and Duane Simons signed the letter March 9 requesting property tax revenue for 2017. The “historic letter” as defined by Rep. Denley Loge, describes the plight Mineral County is facing as options to fund the county have dried up.
Colorado woman dies after vehicle gets stuck
An early evening call received by Mineral County dispatch on Friday, March 17, ended in tragedy. The body of Colorado resident Debra Ann Koziel was found in the Fish Creek area by a search team the following Tuesday afternoon. Her death was determined to be the result of exposure to weather.
No major flooding as snow thaws
“As the ground starts thawing, the rocks start falling,” was a post made on the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page last week. A photo accompanied the post of a big rock which had come down on Mullan Road East near the Big Eddy fishing access in Superior on March 11. “Please be aware of your surroundings and pay attention while driving,” they warned in the post.
