Polson runner Beatrix Frissell has continued to help catapult the Lady Pirates’ cross country program into one of the best in the state of Montana.

Last year, Frissell, then a junior, captured the Class A state title in Helena and was the main piece that catapulted the Lady Pirates into a second-place finish in Helena.

This year, Frissell has continued to gain momentum, finishing in the top-five in every race in which she has participated.

Frissell and her Lady Pirate teammates will try to out-do 2017’s accomplishments, as they embark on Montana’s most prominent stage the Montana High School Association Class A state cross country running championships that will take place Saturday at the University of Montana state golf course in Missoula.

Frissell will look to add to her ever-growing list of accomplishments, as the senior continues to stockpile letters from prospective colleges for both her athletic and academic achievements.

The Lady Pirates continued their trend at the MHSA Class A Western Classic Saturday afternoon in Kalispell. Frissell turned in a sterling performance and captured first place in the field that included over 60 runners. She recorded one of two sub-19 performances on the day, with a time of 18 minutes, 44.51 seconds — more than three seconds faster than her previous best time.

Lady Pirates runner Molly Sitter, who continues to showcase improvement according to Lady Pirates head coach Matt Seeley, broke into the top 10 and tallied a time of 20:35.96.

Sitter and Frissell’s performance were two main catalysts to the Lady Pirates’ third-place finish in the Classic. The only teams that scored higher than Polson were Whitefish, who finished with 57 points, and Corvallis, who was second with 82.

Gwen Seeley, Polson’s No. 3 runner, also crept into a top-20 finish. She recorded a time of 21:22.64 to finish 20th at Rebecca Farms. Other Lady Pirate runners that excelled were Halle Heninger, River Shoemake and Julie Reiners.

Quin Stewart and Mason Sloan are critical members of a Polson boys’ cross country team that has been loaded with potential the last couple of years.

In this year’s Class A state cross country meet Saturday afternoon at the University of Montana Golf Course in Missoula, Stewart and his team looks to showcase their talent on Montana’s biggest stage.

Sloan received all-conference accolades by finishing ninth in the Class A Western Divisional at Rebecca Farms in Kalispell, with a time of 16:57.15. Quin Stewart, the Pirates No. 2 runner, finished with a time of 17:46.62.

Polson finished seventh out of 11 teams at the Western A Divisionals.
