Aspire Community Theatre’s new season opens tonight with the tap dancing favorite, “42nd Street.”

Described as the ultimate show-biz musical, “42nd Street” features Broadway, Times Square and the people who make the magic of musical theater.

It tells the story of aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer, who comes to the big city from Allentown, Pa., and soon lands her first big job in the ensemble of a glitzy new Broadway show. But just before opening night, the leading lady breaks her ankle. Will Peggy be able to step in and become a star?

This production features 21 of the area’s performers who will be sharing the Salvation Army Kroc Center stage, acting, singing and dancing to Broadway standards, including “You’re Getting To Be A Habit With Me,” “Dames,” “We’re In the Money,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” “Shuffle Off to Buffalo” and “Forty-Second Street.”

Showtimes are Oct. 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 2 p.m.

Performances are at the Kroc Center Community Theatre, 1765 W. Golf Course Road, Coeur d’Alene.

Tickets are $19 to $25 and discounted group rates are available.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.aspirecda.com or by visiting the Box Office at the Kroc two hours prior to performances. This production may not be suitable for young audiences and has a suggested rating of PG-13.
