(Courtesy photo via Facebook) Andrea Marcoccio and Kennden Culp will be celebrating the grand opening of their new brew pub, Matchwood Brewing Company, in Sandpoint's historic Granary District. In addition to their six craft beers on tap, the brew pub will also feature a fresh take on classic foods and more.

After three years of hard work by Kennden Culp and Andrea Marcoccio, Matchwood Brewing Company is now a reality.

A grand opening to celebrate is planned for Saturday, Oct. 20. The event will take place from 2-10 p.m. All are welcome to attend the family friendly event, but individuals must be 21 and older to enjoy Matchwood Brewing’s craft beer.

“Matchwood Brewing Company is Sandpoint’s neighborhood brewery where personal connections foster positive community change through the power of dialogue and laughter — one delicious handcrafted beer at a time,” said the company’s Andrea Marcoccio.

The brewing company is located at 513 Oak in in Sandpoint’s historic Granary District.

“(We want) to celebrate three years of hard work from concept to construction to craft beer and community space with friends, family and neighbors who have supported this vision,” said Marcoccio of the grand opening celebration.

The event also will serve as a fundraiser for a local single dad facing an extreme medical emergency,” Marcoccio said.

“Let’s raise a glass for a good cause and lift up one of our own.”

Matchwood Brewing’s inaugural flight includes six craft beers on tap featuring a depth of flavors from sparkling ale to its Double West Coast IPA to its handcrafted porter, Marcoccio said. Beverage options also include wine by the glass and bottles, Upside Kombucha, Summit Cider and Evans Brothers coffee, growlers, crowlers and tasters.

In addition to the great craft beers and other activities, live music will be featured at the event. Squirrel Butter will play from 4-6 p.m., Larry Myer will play from 6-7 p.m., and Bum Jungle will play from 7-9 p.m.

Marcoccio said they couples a time-honored brewing process with pioneering hop blends and innovative technology to create a diverse range of craft beers.

“We are proud to specialize in a diverse flight of English and American ales handcrafted with time-honored brewing techniques that are thoughtfully coupled with pioneering hop blends and innovative brewing technology,” she said. “We take pride in offering high quality handmade craft beers for every palette and aim to make our craft beers as approachable and welcoming as our space.”

In addition, Matchwood Brewing’s guests can pick up some great grub while quenching their thirst as it offers a fresh take on the classics. An indoor food-truck-style counter combined with the laid-back warmth of a neighborhood eatery delivers a space and menu that is simple, substantial, approachable and affordable. A full menu is available online.

“While major renovations have ensured a comfortable environment and state of the art brewing facility — the history and community surrounding our location drive the look and feel of our brewery,” Marcoccio said.

That means finishes are made of repurposed materials extracted from the building and historic grain elevator and carefully designed and handmade furniture by local artisans to accompany a handcrafted bar made of a 130-year-old western white pine from Kennden and Andrea Marcoccio’s family property to honor the brew pub’s story.

Matchwood Brewing Company also offer a community room for local gatherings and events, indoor and outdoor stages and patio, family friendly space including kids “cubbies” with books, toys and games for tiny guests.
