TWIN FALLS — After getting organized, it was business as usual for Coeur d’Alene Charter in the state 3A semifinals.

Up next, a fifth straight appearance in the state championship match.

Sarah Hines had a goal and two assists, Eliason Cherrstrom two second-half goals to lead the Panthers past the Marsh Valley Eagles 4-1 in a state 3A semifinal match at the Sunway Soccer Complex on Friday.

“We knew that Marsh Valley was going to come out strong and physical,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “It took us about 20 minutes to organzie ourselves, and we were lucky to hold them from scoring during that time.”

Hines’ goal off a penalty kick opened the scoring for Coeur d’Alene Charter (20-0-0), which faces Sugar-Salem (18-0-1) in the championship match today at 11 a.m. PDT.

“After the first half penalty, the momentum shifted and we were able to keep it swung in our direction for most of the rest of the game,” Smith said. “Marsh Valley played very well down the middle and gave us a challenge we hadn’t seen all season. We made some adjustments in our formation and the girls were able to pull it off. I couldn’t be more proud of them for rising to this challenge. Regardless of the outcome of it, we know we only have one game left with this specific group of girls and we’re really looking forward to it.”

Rocky Mountain 3

Lake City 2, 2OT

IDAHO FALLS — It had the feel of a state championship game at the Idaho Falls Soccer Complex.

In a game of moments, Rocky Mountain’s in the 93rd minute was the difference.

Rocky Mountain scored off a corner kick at the start of the second overtime, outlasting Lake City 3-2 in double overtime in a state 5A tournament semifinal match.

Lake City (14-3-0) will face Timberline High (11-6-4) of Boise in the third-place match today at noon. Rocky Mountain (14-3-2) will face Boise (18-3) in the championship match today at 3 p.m.

Chloe Teets opened the scoring in the second minute for Lake City, which took a 2-1 lead at the half on a goal by Kali McKelips in the 39th minute.

“Chloe scored off a free kick that she just put in the back of the net,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “She had another that she almost scored in the first overtime.”

Rocky Mountain tied the match at 2-2 in the 74th minute before getting the deciding goal off a corner kick in the second OT.

“We fought so hard,” Ruchti said. “It was a good game by both teams. It really felt like a championship game. We just didn’t clear a few balls, and it allowed them a couple of opportunities and they were able to put a couple away.”

On the deciding goal, Lake City defender Ruchti said Bridget Rieken appeared to get fouled clearing the ball, allowing the Grizzlies to score.

“The goal in the second time was unfortunate,” Ruchti said. “Bridget made a great play on the ball, it looked like she was blatently pushed and the official missed it, and they scored the goal. It was very disappointing it was missed, and I felt bad for the girls. Rocky’s a great team and they’re going to battle for the title. We’re going to get ready for the third-place match. Our girls were outstanding in their effort. It’s hard to win trophies at state.”

IDAHO FALLS — Jacob Janzen and Ashton Elwin finished with a goal and assist each, leading the Timberwolves past the Trojans in a loser-out match in the state 5A tournament at the Idaho Falls Soccer Complex.

“I was very pleased with today’s performance and proud of this team’s ability to shake off yesterday’s disappointing 1-0 loss (to Boise),” Lake City coach Alan Rich said. “It was a great team win. We spread the scoring over four different players, played very solid defensively and possessed the ball for a large percentage of the game. It’s nice to get back on track as we head into the final game of the tournament.”

Lake City (15-1-0) faces Coeur d’Alene (12-5-0) in the consolation championship today at 9 a.m. PDT.

Coeur d’Alene 1

Thunder Ridge 0

IDAHO FALLS — Once the Vikings committed to being a little more direct, they found themselves on the right side of the scoreboard.

Chris Swider scored on an assist from Cameron Dance in the 64th minute as Coeur d’Alene beat Thunder Ridge of Idaho Falls in a loser-out match at the Idaho Falls Soccer Complex.

“In the second half, we realized we should have had a few more goals against them,” Coeur d’Alene coach Braden Ridgewell said. “We needed to play more direct. Cameron saw the space and played the ball into Chris, and he outraced their defense and outran the goalie.”

Coeur d’Alene (12-5-0) will face Lake City (15-1-0) in the 5A consolation championship match today at 9 a.m.

“I’m definitely excited, and the guys were excited to play them again,” said Ridgewell of a fourth match with Lake City this season. “We wouldn’t have wanted to play this match against anyone else. It means a lot to face them. A lot of these guys play together in club and for our seniors, there’s a lot of sentimental value in that.”

First half – none. Second half — 1, Cd’A, Chris Swider (Cameron Dance), 64:00.

Shots on goal — Cd’A 9, TR 9.
