Hot chili on cold night raises money for Troy school clubs

Svetlana Harper is served chicken chili by Troy High School junior Mazzy Hermes Friday night. The Troy student council president was serving up the student council’s winning entry as the school’s clubs competed to raise the most money. The voting for the clubs was done through donations, with a dollar a vote, and $140 total was raised, said Troy High School Principal Christina Schertel. The Troy High School clubs and departments held a chili cook off during the Troy football game against Plains Thursday.
The participating clubs included Outdoor Club, Yearbook, Student Council and Travel Club, and the clubs raised money by allowing people to vote for the best chili with a dollar a vote.
The Student Council won, and $140 total was raised, said High School Principal Christina Schertel.
The English and administrative departments also competed for a trophy, a piece depicting a flaming bowl of chili made by students Creedence Martin and Sarah Shadden in Jeff Thill’s industrial arts class, Schertel said.
Votes for the departments were made with tickets.
Schertel also thanked Chapel Cedar and True Value Hardware of Troy for their support and providing desserts for the cook off.
