Free childrens books, quilted bags at Troy Halloween Carnival

The Troy Public Schools After School Program is adding something extra to the annual Halloween Carnival this year.
The carnival will take place at W.F. Morrison Elementary in the gymnasium from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
This year, Tender Lovin’ Quilters of Troy have helped to spread the love with bags they made that the Troy After School Program will fill with books for children under 5, said ASP program supervisor Jennifer Higgins.
The books were purchased with a grant from the Montana-based nonprofit Hopa Mountain, she said.
The bags and books will be given away at the carnival as part of the school’s efforts to promote early literacy, and will include bookmarks with tips for parents and guardians on engaging young children with reading.
The carnival will still have various other activities and booths, including things such as cupcake decorating and free food.
