SANDPOINT — A jury trial has been called off in the case of Sagle man who was sentenced earlier this month to 34 years in prison in Oregon.

It remains unclear if Michael Henry Forker will stand trial for sex offenses he committed in Bonner County in 2017.

Forker’s defense counsel, Coeur d’Alene attorney Michael G. Palmer, told a 1st District judge that he may seek a detainer to force a trial, although Bonner County Prosecutor Louis Marshall has indicated he might oppose such a move. Marshall also plans to consult with the alleged victim the case, court records show.

Forker, 41, was ordered to serve 411 months in prison after being convicted of sexual abuse of varying degrees and sodomy in Oregon this summer. The misconduct dates back to 2002.

Forker’s trial on the Idaho charges was set for next month.

The alleged victim in the Idaho case testified at a preliminary hearing that Forker offered to buy him gifts in exchange for sexual encounters.

Forker registered as a sex offender in Idaho after he was convicted of 10 counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in Oregon in 2009, according to the state registry.

Forker is being held at the Coffee Creek Intake Center in Wilsonville, according to the Oregon Department of Corrections’ website.
