BONNERS FERRY — On Oct. 20, the Bonners Ferry Women’s Cancer Support group met once again for their annual luncheon at Chic ‘N Chop.

The lunch came with the discussion about improvements that are in the works for the Boundary Community Hospital and the outpatient services that are offered. The goal for the hospital is to provide the best and most up to date care to community members, as well as bringing services to the area that were not available before. In bringing new technology and services, residents won’t have to travel as far for appointments and procedures, which takes a load off for those who have frequent visits to the doctor.

The Bonners Ferry Women’s Cancer Support group puts on various fundraising events throughout the year, where all proceeds go towards assisting local residents of any age and gender that have cancer. They provide assistance with gas, gift baskets, company, and support of many kinds to those who have cancer.

There is an award given through the group and the plaque that the names have previously been engraved into has become full, resulting in the group ordering a new plaque for this years recipient.

Virginia Sanborn received the award, having her name being the first on the new plaque. Sanborn got the news that she had breast cancer in 2004. After receiving the traditional gift basket from the group, she joined and is now the treasurer.

The group sends out a thank you to Ron Erickson of the Chic ‘N Chop for his continuous support and great food, the community for their support, Safeway for the flower arrangements, Sugar Plum Floral for their contribution of their floral donations, and the group members for all of their work.

“I think my purpose is to help people,” Sanborn said, during her thank-you speech.

After the presentations, the group went on to draw the winners for the raffles. The winner for the basket was Jean Osbourne, Linda Marley won the quilt, Jean Osbourne won jewelry, and Magnolia Morasse won the large quilt.
