Troy momentum falls in Eureka loss

The Troy High School volleyball team finished off their last game at home with a three-set loss to Eureka on Thursday, Oct. 18.
With a close 21-25 score in their first set, Troy Head Coach Jordan Graves said she saw something new from the team early in the match.
“They were just really excited and really pumped up for this game, and they came out and they showed that, and they just played as a team,” she said. “That’s really awesome.”
It was the first set that Graves has seen the Lady Trojans come together like that, she said.
Not only were the players on the court communicating better — calling the ball and encouraging each other — but even the Lady Trojan bench got in on it, Graves said. “The bench also, was just screaming and talking.”
But, volleyball is a game of momentum, and once that falls off, it can be difficult to recover, Graves said.
She wasn’t sure what happened through the remainder of the match, as Eureka finished off Troy in two lopsided sets.
“I think part of it is, they were down a couple points, and then they kind of just let it build, and they just couldn’t quite get the momentum back,” she said.
Though the Eureka match was the Lady Trojans’ final home game, they still have one more match for the season. Troy will travel to Thompson Falls Saturday for their final match, with junior varsity beginning at 1 p.m. and varsity to follow.
