A 62-year-old Superior man died Sunday morning in a crash on a backcountry road in Mineral County.

According to Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Shawn Smalley, 62-year-old Brian Alexander was driving a 1999 Ford F-250 west on Forest Service Road 18001, about 6 miles from Quartz Loop, when he reportedly drove off the left side of the road, traveled down a steep embankment and hit a tree.

Alexander, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the truck and died at the scene.

Sgt. Smalley said Highway Patrol was waiting on autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
