PRIEST RIVER — A Priest River man was arrested early Tuesday morning for forcibly raping a woman.

Priest River Police were summoned to a camp trailer in the 200 block of Beardmore Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. after a woman reported being raped by Kenneth Warren Learn II.

The woman told police Learn pinned her against the bed, forcibly groped her genitalia and partially penetrated her with his penis, according to a probable cause affidavit. A criminal complaint alleges the woman resisted Learn, but that resistance was overcome by force or violence.

The woman, who was sharing the cramped trailer with Learn, said she scratched him hard enough to get him to break off the alleged assault, the affidavit said.

Learn, 39, admitted to police that the woman told him “no” and “stop” during the incident, but Learn said he could not help himself, according to the affidavit.

Outside of a traffic-related misdemeanor, Learn has no prior criminal record in Idaho, according to the state’s iCourt database.

Learn was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bond following an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Tuesday afternoon. A public defender was also appointed to represent him, court records show.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Sept. 12.
