Loggers' 30-19 loss at Frenchtown shows growth

With work still left to do, the Libby High School football team took on the tough Frenchtown Broncs Friday for their second loss of the season, 30-19.
The game had some similarities to the 42-31 loss the Loggers faced at Corvallis the week before, said Head Coach Neil Fuller. Yet, he also saw some noticeable improvement in how the team performed with only a week between the games.
Unlike at Corvallis, where the defense struggled, Fuller said he was happy with how solid the defense did at Frenchtown. “Defensively, we did what we had to do to win the game against Frenchtown.”
Still, there were slips and plays that didn’t quite go to plan, he said.
In the final minutes, trailing by 11 points, the Loggers were around the Broncs’ 15 yard line, but threw a pick and missed the chance at a comeback.
Fuller gave the Loggers credit for their effort, coming back from a 23-7 deficit at the half to try to overtake Frenchtown.
“Our kids did a great job battling and coming back,” he said. “It’s a maturation process, and we’ve got a lot of kids that need the non-conference games to get to where they need to be from an experience standpoint.”
Fuller also gave credit to the work his assistant coaches did during the game, calling the right plays at the right times.
“The bottom line is we’ve got to take care of the football from an offensive standpoint,” he said. “For us to compete, for us to have a shot at the playoffs, we’re going to have to do a better job of taking care of the football.”
The Loggers’ next game is at home in Logger Stadium on Friday. They are scheduled to face Butte Central starting at 7 p.m.
