COEUR d’ALENE — Bonners Ferry High School swimmers Julia Cummings and Seamus Newcomb began their seasons — along with hundreds of other North Idaho athletes — at the Ice Breaker meet on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene.

Lake City, Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint, Post Falls, Lewiston, Moscow, Lakeland and Wallace high schools also had swimmers compete.

Badger sophomore Julia Cummings was fifth out of 19 finishers in the girls 200-yard freestyle event, with a time of 2:10.82.

“Julia Cummings swam a smart 200 freestyle — consistent and strong,” said Sandpoint swim coach Greg Jackson, who coaches Bulldog and Badger swimmers. “We are excited to see her next week as she competes in her best events.”

Freshman Seamus Newcomb competed in the boys 50-yard freestyle (19th out of 51 finishers, 29.08) and the 100-yard breaststroke (12th of 23 finishers, 1:18.84).

“Seamus Newcomb had personal bests in both events, and we expect his 100 breaststroke to be the event to watch moving forward,” Jackson said.

The Badgers will compete at a meet in Moscow on Saturday, Sept. 15.
