A gun safe was found last week at Turtle Lake, and authorities are turning to the public for information.

According to Lake County Sheriff Don Bell, a citizen found the safe in the water and contacted the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Bell said that the safe wasn’t recognized by local law enforcement. The safe was empty “with the exception of a unique” Department of Interior pin.

Bell wants to remind everyone that thefts of entire safes are not common.

“It is important to follow the manufacturers recommendations and secure your safe to the floor, or wall,” he stated.

Anyone with information on the recovered gun safe is asked for contact LCSO at 406-883-7279.
