The Alzheimer’s Association Washington State Chapter invites area residents to participate in the upcoming North Idaho Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The event will take place Sept. 29 at Riverstone Park in Coeur d’Alene.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s disease. Last year, 425 people participated in the North Idaho Walk, raising $52,914. Funds raised for the event are used for Alzheimer’s research and to provide care and support services for local families impacted by the disease.

“The Walk to End Alzheimer’s brings the community together to honor and celebrate those we’ve known, loved and lost to the disease, as well their devoted and compassionate caregivers,” says Bob Le Roy, executive director of the Washington State Chapter. “When we walk together, each step brings us closer to our vision of a world without Alzheimer’s disease.”

Registration for the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by an opening ceremony at 9:45 a.m. and the three-mile walk at 10 a.m. This is a family and pet friendly event, and the walk route is fully accessible. It is free to attend; however, participants who donate or raise $100 or more will receive a Walk to End Alzheimer’s T-shirt.

In Washington state there are more than 110,000 people living with Alzheimer’s and another 340,000 unpaid caregivers providing their support. It is the six leading cause of death nationally, and the only leading cause of death that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed.
