Ray Franklin Kincaid, 92, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018 in Sandpoint, Idaho. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018 at the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lori Morton officiating.

Ray was born on June 13, 1926, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to Ray and Ethel Kincaid. He grew up and attended schools in Coeur d’Alene prior to serving in the U.S. Army Air force. After the military, Ray attended North Idaho Junior College before completing a technical course in watchmaking and repair. His meticulous nature fit well with watch repair.

Ray married Dolores Kincaid on August 28, 1948, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. In 1952, they moved to Sandpoint with their young daughter where he went to work for Russ Sayer’s Jewelry doing watch repair. He continued there for 17 years during which they had an additional daughter and a son. He managed Bargain Supply for five years before buying Art Ruyle’s jewelry store in 1976, which became Kincaid Jewelry, and continued there until he retired in 1991.

Ray and Dolores, along with Dar and Joann Cogswell, traveled the United States and parts of Canada pulling their camp trailers, as well as a yearly caravan of trailers with good friends to winter in Arizona.

Ray is a member of the First Lutheran Church, a past Rotarian, and a member of the Elks Lodge. He was a life long golfer and delighted to earn free greens fees when he turned 90.

A very social guy, Ray loved the company of his friends and family and almost anyone else he could talk to. Family members ready to leave a social gathering would often be found at the door, coats and hats on, waiting for Ray to finally finish a conversation. His easy manner with people particularly suited him as the sole proprietor of Ray Kincaid Jeweler located on First Avenue in Sandpoint. To this day we meet people who comment on Dad’s kindness, honesty and generosity.

Ray loved the ocean, especially in the fall, and many an October would find him and Dolores on the coast with their trailer where they were likely to be out crabbing.

He enjoyed gardening, golfing, fishing, woodworking and traveling and serving his community.

Ray is survived by two daughters, Kay Walker, and Kit Kincaid (Dennis Cross); one son Rob Kincaid (Amy Craven) all of Sandpoint; two grandchildren Heather (Alex) Berry of Issaquah, Wash., and Michael (Megan) Hughes of Snoqualmie, Wash.; and four great grandchildren, Aresa, Eliot, Clover, Fig.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dolores Kincaid, and two sisters Dode Finch and Betty Finch.
