Alberton Homecoming was a 'spirited' event

The freshman class float won first place in the Alberton Homecoming Parade. It features a red and white striped popcorn box with yellow and white popcorn balloons and was entitled, “Grab your poporn because we are putting on a show,” which the Cats did with a win in both volleyball and football games.

Alberton School celebrated Homecoming festivities last week with several fun activities, including their annual parade which was held on Thursday, Sept. 20. The high school band led the way followed by class floats and Homecoming princesses.
Princesses this year were senior, Kristina Solinger; junior, Savanna Gould; and freshman, Zoey Zimmerman, with no representation from the sophomore class.
COLORFUL CLASS floats also decorated Railroad Avenue with the classes of 2023 and 2024 combined float, “We Lava to Win,” featuring a construction and crepe paper volcano. The freshman class won first place for their float, which was a giant red and white striped box of yellow and white balloon popcorn which said, “Grab your popcorn because we are putting on a show”.
The sophomore class featured a brown construction paper horse rode by the panther mascot stating, “Storm the Gate,” and the juniors had, “Mountain Cat, Inc. Scaring Our Way to Victory,” based on the Disney movie, “Monsters, Inc.” Meanwhile, the seniors pounded on drums for their theme of “To Victory and Beyond.”
Homecoming days played out all week where kids came to school dressed crazy with the theme “Manic Monday;” Tuesday featured “To the Future,” where they dressed like their future career or job; Wednesday was “Western Day;” and Thursday was “Mountain Cat Spirit Gear.”
ALSO ON Thursday afternoon, all the students got to participate in stations around the school, including face painting, float making, square dancing and learning a performance piece, which was featured during halftime at the Friday night Homecoming football game against Troy. Halftime also featured the princesses and the Alberton pep band. The Lady Mountain Cats faced the St. Regis Tigers on Thursday evening for their Homecoming match, winning in a three-game sweep.

Veterans honored at annual breakfast
“Scott Burrows, Navy, 1961 through 1965, Vietnam.” “Ernie Ornelas, Navy, 1972 through 1998.” “John Cheesman, Army, 1963 through 1965, Vietnam.” These military veterans stood up and introduced themselves during a breakfast at St. Regis School. The annual event is held Nov. 8 for local military personnel in honor of Veterans Day.
Lady Cats seeded second at District
With regular season at a close, the Clark Fork Lady Mountain Cats will be heading to volleyball Districts in second place, behind Seeley-Swan. The Cats suffered a loss to Noxon and to Seeley-Swan during the season, ending 8-2. Seeley cut the Cats out of first place for Districts last year, as well.
A day at The Paw Spa
Let’s face it, dogs stink. They roll in foul smelling things they find in pastures, mountain trails, and even their own back yard. The smellier, the more they seem to enjoy it. They also enjoy romping through the mud and thistles and can end up pretty messy by the end of the day. Despite these habits, people love their dogs. As of 2017 over 60 million U.S. households owned a dog and $69.5 billion was spent on these furry family members, according to an American Pet Products Association survey.
