Royal, ACH unanimously voted No. 1 in latest AP poll

Local teams Royal (1A) and Almira/Coulee-Hartline (1B) were unanimously voted No. 1 in the latest Associated Press Washington High School Football Poll.

It was the fourth week in a row both reigning state champions held the top spot.

In a rematch from last year’s state playoffs, Royal routed Okanogan 56-17 in Week 4 and extended its win streak to 45 games. Almira/Coulee-Hartline zoomed by Yakama Tribal 78-24 and should face a great test Oct. 5 at second-ranked Odessa.

There was some drama at the top of the 4A standings as Union edged Mount Si (93-92) for No. 1.
