Charlo High School emerged with the championship from the 12-team Mineral County Shootout volleyball tournament held last Saturday in Superior and St. Regis.

The Lady Vikings won seven of their nine pool play games. After winning just one of three games against Noxon, Charlo swept both Lincoln and Hot Springs.

The 7-2 pool play mark allowed the Lady Vikings to advance to four-team bracket play. They defeated Thompson Falls in two sets in the semifinals, then dispatched the Clark Fork Mountain Cats 25-15 and 25-23 in the title match. Thompson Falls topped Darby 25-17 and 25-14 to claim third place.

The teams in the St. Regis pool were Seeley-Swan, St. Regis, Darby, Arlee, Plains and Thompson Falls. In the Superior pool were Lincoln, Clark Fork, Hot Springs, Victor, Noxon and Charlo.

Overall, the tournament went well without any problems, according to Superior Athletic Director Chris Clairmont.

$60,000 raised at 4-H/FFA livestock auction

Nearly $53,000 went into the pockets and college funds of 4-H/FFA members at the 2018 Livestock Auction held on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 4 at the Mineral County Fair. This doesn’t include the additional $8,000 local businesses threw into the pot to sweeten the deal for the 21 youth who have spent this past year raising the animals for judging and the auction. Altogether, there were 14 swine, three beef, two sheep and one chicken up for grabs.
