On the first day of autumn, Christmas was on one group’s mind.

The third annual Toys for Tots 4-Person Golf Scramble at the Polson Bay Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 22.

“We’ve got to get an early start to get everything in line” for the holiday season, Commandant Rick Marquart, of the Marines Corps League Hellroaring Detachment 1041, said.

Five teams with four members each participated in the fundraiser, which members of the Hellroaring detachment said is the largest of the year.

The goal was $3,000, which Mauri Morin, coordinator for the Toys for Tots campaign in Lake and Sanders counties, said would go toward making sure children across Lake County will receive toys this Christmas.

An estimated 3,000 total children will be gifted toys this upcoming season, Morin said.

Morin said that in the beginning of November, boxes will be around the county where brand-new, unwrapped toys can be dropped off for the annual toy drive.

A 50/50 raffle and raffles for prizes during the golf scramble were available, as well as a cash prize for the first-place team.

Anyone interested in applying to receive toys or to donate to the Marines for Toys for Tots can visit toysfortots.org.
