Two-vehicle accident injures drivers, closes U.S. 95

BONNERS FERRY — A two-vehicle injury accident occurred on Sept. 19, around 4:40 p.m. on Highway 95 at MM 504, north of Peterson Hill. The Highway was closed for approximately 2½ hours for cleanup and investigation.
According to the Idaho State Police news release, a black Nissan pickup, driven by Matthew Brown, 19, from Bonners Ferry, was traveling north on U.S. 95, when he crossed into the southbound lane and struck Shannon Gala, 49, from Sandpoint who was driving a gold Lexus sedan.
Extrication was required on both vehicles and Brown was transported by Life Flight to Kootenai Health. Gala was taken by Boundary Ambulance to Boundary Community Hospital. According to the ISP report, Gala was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash; however, Brown was reportedly not being wearing a seat belt.
The crash is still under investigation.
