Annual fun run takes steps against cancer
CAROLINE LOBSINGER | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 6 years, 3 months AGO
I grew up in the Tri-Cities, Wash., and have always loved to write. I attended the University of Washington, where I earned a double major in journalism and political science, with an area of emphasis in history. I am the fifth out of six kids — don't believe any of the stories that my siblings tell. To be able to tell others stories and take photos for a living is a dream come true — and I considered myself blessed to be a community journalist. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, hiking and spending time outdoors, genealogy, reading, and watching the UW Huskies and the Seattle Seahawks. I am a servant to my cat, Frankie, who yes, will eat anything and everything in sight … even wedding cookies. | September 28, 2018 1:00 AM
SANDPOINT — First comes the walk — a 5K fun run on the Sand Creek Trail to raise money and awareness for two local organizations that assist those in our community fighting cancer — Celebrate Life and Community Cancer Services.
Following the workout, comes the fun — a family friendly Oktoberfest celebration
The third-annual event, hosted by 7B Women and co-sponsored again this year by MickDuff’s Brewing Co., combines a 5K on the Sand Creek Trail followed by a family friendly Oktoberfest at MickDuff’s Beer Hall
Both the Boobs ‘n Beer fun run and the Oktoberfest celebration are Sunday, Sept. 30, rain or shine.
Online registration is $40 for adults and $10 for kids — until 5 p.m. today. After 5 p.m., the cost increases to $50 for adults and $15 for children. Kids in strollers can take part at no cost. Dogs are welcome so long as they are on leashes and are picked up after.
Registration can be done online at 7BWomen.com. Price is $40 for adults and $10 for kids. After Friday, Sept. 28 at 5 p.m., price increases to $50 for adults and $15 for children. Kids in strollers are free.
Those wishing to register after that time may register in person on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 3 to 6 p.m. at MickDuff’s Beer Hall or on Sunday, Sept. 30, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Sandpoint City Beach. Packet pick-up and registration is at MickDuff’s Beer Hall Saturday from 3-6 p.m. and day of event beginning at 9 a.m.
Event starts at 11am. Costumes not required but encouraged.
The Oktoberfest celebration is complete with kids’ activities, including face painting and a bounce house, and 20 Grand, a 10-piece band from Whitefish, Mont. And an Oktoberfest event would not be complete without beer. For those 21 and older, race registration will include one free beer at MickDuff’s, and a portion of all other beer sold that day will go to the two beneficiary organizations.
Last year, the event raised $17,500 for Community Cancer Services and Celebrate Life.
The fun run begins at the parking lot at City Beach at 11 a.m. Costumes are highly encouraged.
“The creativity in the past when it comes to costumes has always been a highlight!” said Alice Sloane, who adds that people dress to celebrate breast cancer awareness month by sporting head-to-toe pink or embrace the Oktoberfest theme and break out the lederhosen.
In addition to music, beer and kids’ activities, there will be food available as well.

County OKs library boundary changes
A boundary line adjustment between the county's two library districts was formally approved by Bonner County commissioners at a meeting last week to approve the issue. The proposal realigns the boundary line between the East Bonner County and West Bonner library districts to match those of the Lake Pend Oreille and West Bounty County school districts. While the measure was unanimously approved by the two library districts on Aug. 20, 2024, that decision needed to be codified by the commissioners. The Board of County Commissioners approved the measure in a unanimous 3-0 vote.
