MATTAWA — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says a Mattawa teenager has been arrested after making “an online threat” to this year’s homecoming celebrations at Wahluke High School.

While the exact nature of the threat was not made public, the sheriff’s office said it has investigated the matter in cooperation with the Wahluke School District and traced the originating IP address to a suspect.

“After further investigation, that suspect was arrested and booked into the Grant County juvenile justice system,” the sheriff’s office said.

The suspect’s name and age were not given.

The sheriff’s office also said it “does not believe there is any credibility to the verbalized threat and there was no evidence of a formalized plan or any actual preparation.”

“You can be held accountable for making threats,” said Kyle Foreman, spokesman for the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. “We take threats against schools 100 percent seriously.”
