BONNERS FERRY — The Badger softball team hosted its first home game on April 6 against Troy, losing 18-15 in a seven-inning, nonconference affair.
“I think the game went really well,” said Coach Chelsea Taggart. “It was a slow start but the girls finally found their stride in the third inning and started connecting with hits.”
After losing their core group of players and having an influx of new players to the team, there are still some kinks to work through, Taggart said.
“For some of them this was the first time they had been on the field,” said Taggart. “They played together as a team and hung in there as we only had nine girls and no subs available. We’re excited and looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Their next game will be Friday, April 12 at the Bonners Ferry High School upper field against IML rival Timberlake. It will be a doubleheader, with games scheduled at 2:30 and 5 p.m. Next week, the Badgers continue IML play as they host Priest River in another doubleheader, with games at 3 and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16.
