Sandpoint JV softball drops pair of games against Lake City

Sandpoint JV softball fell in a 15-5, 11-4 double-header against Lake City on Wednesday that saw the Bulldogs run out of time during two comebacks.
“The outfield did great and Madi Garman did amazing,” Sandpoint JV softball head coach Leah Platt said. “But as a team, we just hitting to people.”
In the first game, Sandpoint’s offense struggled to respond to Lake City’s six-run first inning, which eventually snowballed into a 14-2 lead by the time the Bulldogs turned over the lineup. Cresanna Authier and Neveah Witherspoon pitched a pair of innings apiece before the game was run-ruled.
The offense came alive, however, in the second game, which saw three Bulldogs hit for extra bases as the team began to dig itself out of another deficit. Unfortunately, the game got called just as the Bulldogs found their rhythm.
Overall, the junior varsity team had a few bright spots while playing against a 5A school. Paige Lanie was even more effective once she got aboard; she led the Bulldogs with two stolen bases, while also driving in a run in the first game.
Eight Bulldogs scored runs throughout the doubleheader, hinting at an offense that, when perfected, could be too well-rounded to stop.
Barring cancellations, Sandpoint JV and varsity softball return to action at home today against Moscow. Both double-header series start at 2 p.m.
