SANDPOINT — A Sandpoint woman is awaiting arraignment for allegedly commingling intravenous drug paraphernalia with her son’s belongings.

The 29-year-old woman is charged with misdemeanor injury to a child. The Daily Bee is not publishing the woman’s name so as not to identify her 9-year-old son.

Sandpoint Police were summoned to the woman’s Pine Street apartment to conduct a welfare check on March 6. The woman gave consent to search the dwelling and prescription medication in crushed and tablet form were found in a bedroom, a police affidavit said. In the apartment’s lone bathroom, officers discovered three used syringes on sink which were touching the boy’s Star Wars toothbrush and toothpaste, in addition to a cup used for rinsing, the affidavit said.

One of the syringes field-tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the affidavit.

The woman told police the syringes had been there for months and denied being an active user of the addictive stimulant, court records indicate.

The child was removed from the home and placed with a family member, according to court documents.

The woman is scheduled to be arraigned in Bonner County Magistrate Court on April 19. She is free on her own recognizance while the case is pending.
