Glacier, Flathead battle C-Falls netters

Glacier topped Columbia Falls in boys play 5-3 and the two schools split 4-4 in girls action on Tuesday on the tennis courts at Flathead Valley Community College.
Columbia Falls won boys and girls matches at Nos. 1-2-3 singles and No. 4 girls singles.
Glacier swept doubles play on both sides and won at No. 4 boys singles.
Matches at 3-4 girls singles were marathon battles won by Maria Vizay-Vicentin and Julia Sowerine of Columbia Falls. Sowerine needed 2 hours, 50 minutes to beat Sydney Pepe 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 while Vizay-Vicentin’s 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Mariah Dickey was 2 ½ hours long.
“Some definitely worn out kids,” Glacier coach Josh Munro said. “There was a lot of good, competitive play. Some of the kids took advantage of the weather with some long matches.”
Glacier travels to Helena on Saturday for conference play. Columbia Falls has a Thursday Northwestern A dual with Whitefish at FVCC.

Columbia Falls
The Flathead boys won all eight matches while the girls won four times in doubles play and once at No. 4 singles. Only one match went three sets with Ryan Thompson topping Dillion Washington 3-6, 6-2, 10-0 at No. 2 singles.
Flathead travels to Helena on Saturday for conference play. Columbia Falls is scheduled to face Whitefish on Thursday at FVCC in Northwestern A action.
“It was a good day of tennis for us,” Columbia Falls coach Gene Marcille said. “Our singles had a great day. Hannah Schweikert had two great matches, so did Maria (Vizay-Vicentin) and Katy (Garate).”
