Vikings track team finishes strong at Dave Tripp Invite
Jason Blasco | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 6 years, 7 months AGO
Over the past several years Charlo has become known for having a top-tier Montana High School Class C, 8-man football team.
Success in MHSA Class-C, 8-man football is predicated on speed, and that speed is developed on the track, as well as on the gridiron.
The Vikings track team has developed plenty of speed, and their track team just as big, if not more prominent tradition, then their football counterparts over the years.
Garrett Vaughan and Landers Smith, both key contributors to Charlo High School’s football team, both showcased their talent.
Smith, a Montana Tech University football signee, finished in the top-five in the 300-meter hurdles, and the long jump.
Smith recorded a time of 44.56 seconds placing first in the 300.
Smith finished fourth in the long jump, recording a distance of 19 feet, 3 inches, a personal record, and the long jump.
Vaughan finished second in the 110-meter hurdles, recording a time of 17.30 seconds, which is a personal record for Vaughan. He also placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.72 seconds. Arlee High School’s Isaac Fisher finished fifth with a time of 47.36 seconds, even a personal record.
The Charlo 4x100 relay team finished third recording a time of 47.95 seconds, and Mission High School’s relay team finished fifth with a time of 48.67 seconds.
The Vikings’ 4x400 relay team finished with a time of 4 minutes, 1.62 seconds.
Mission High School’s Matt Anderson finished with a time of 105 feet, 3 inches, and Arlee High School’s Lee Fullerton finished second in the javelin with a throw of 139 feet, 5 inches, a personal record.
Fisher, also finished fifth in the high jump, recording a height of 5 feet, 6 inches.
Fisher, one of Arlee’s star basketball players, is listed at nearly 6 feet, 9 inches tall, an attribute that should give him an advantage on the track as he progresses through the season.
Diaz captures first
at Tripp Invitational
Charlo High School’s Ethan Diaz finished first recording a personal record of 10 feet, 6 inches. Vaughan finished second recording a distance of 10 feet.
Charlie Adams, of Mission, recorded a distance in the triple jump of 36 feet, 5 inches.
