The general lowland lakes fishing season opens tomorrow, Saturday, April 27. We have mentioned this before, but a day trip is worth the effort.

If not fishing, take the family to Park Lake, but check other lakes on the way. Notice all the campers on the westside of Blue lake. Sometimes the camping trailers and RVs are within a few feet of each other. There are plenty of tents, also.

What will be seen is lots of people and families having fun. They may be fishing and catching fish or cooking depending upon the time of day.

Of course, they may have finished fishing, with their limit of five trout in the cooler. Some may be cooking, while others continue to fish. These people will be having fun.

Highway 17 can be crowded and, in our opinion, a bit dangerous, so day trippers may not want to stop. Continue on to Park Lake, which has more room. The campground will be full or, at least, have a bunch of campers.

Take a walk to the dock and watch youngsters catching their first fish or boats returning to the dock with limits or near limits of fish.

The Park Lake area has lots of grass and room for a picnic lunch. Plus, the youngsters will have a chance to stretch their legs, play catch or tag.

Refreshed at Park Lake, drive up to Deep Lake. The lower end is interesting and anglers should be catching plenty of fish. This is a beautiful area.

If you ever get a chance to take a boat ride on the lake, make sure you go all the way to the upper end. It is gorgeous all the way, with high cliffs on both sides. Think about the Great Flood, which carved this area, as you travel up this lake.

There are a few other lakes in the Sun Lakes State Park. Check out their names and visit them during the trip. The youngsters will remember this day and it will be a memory to last a lifetime, actually several lifetimes.
