Priest River track star Teagun Holycross put an exclamation point on his summer club track season by running the 4x100 and the 4x400 with his Spokane Speed Academy teammates at the USATF Junior Olympic National Championships, held at Sacramento State from July 22-28.
Holycross, a rising senior, ran legs in both the 4x100 and the 4x400 meter relays.
In the 4x100 on Thursday, July 25, Holycross and the Spokane Speed Academy’s B-team of Will Lane, Matthew Hockett and anchor Zackary Jongeward finished 21st overall with a 43.16 — more than half a second better than the team’s seed time.
The next day, Holycross ran the opening leg of the Spokane Speed Academy’s A-team in the 4x400 relay. The team placed 15th overall with a 3:25.61; recent Coeur d’Alene High School grad and state champion Nate Burch and Lake City senior Jake Schnatter ran the second and third legs of the relay, respectively.
He was an alternate for the Spokane Speed Academy 4x100 team that ended up placing seventh overall with a 41.82.
Going into nationals, Holycross and the Spokane Speed Academy’s B-team placed fifth in the 4x100 at the Region 13 Championships with a 43.97, then barely missed winning the 4x400 relay with a 3:24.03.
This was Holycross’s second consecutive year competing in the national club track circuit.
Last summer, he ran the 400 hurdles at the national meet in North Carolina.
Holycross is planning on playing both football and soccer this fall, according to his father Travis.
