Courtesy photo Presley Faherty of the Lake City Figure Skating Club won a national title at the National Showcase over the weekend in Wenatchee, Wash. The club, which features members from the Coeur d'Alene and Spokane area, trains at Frontier Ice Arena in Coeur d'Alene.

- SOFTBALL

The 18U USA Explosion softball team — based in Coeur d’Alene — is looking to fill two roster spots. USA Explosion is the No. 1 softball recruited program in the Inland Empire.

- SELECT SOCCER

The Timbers North FC O8B White participated in the Mt. Hood Challenge in Portland over the weekend. Charlie Dircksen scored 2 goals. Preston Samayoa, Kaden Duffield, and Karter Engebretsen each had a goal and an assist. Donovan Bonar and Bear Coleman each scored once. Canon St. John had an assist. Collin Storey and Donovan Bonar teamed in goal for the Timbers North FC.

The team travels to Sandpoint in September to compete in the Pend Oreille Cup.

The Timbers North FC ‘08 Boys finished second in the Mt. Hood Challenge tournament this past weekend. They lost the championship game to United PDX B08 Black West in a PK shootout 6-5, after 2 scoreless overtime periods. The Timbers 08 Boys Red team had an incredible and exciting start to their season this past weekend. They were 3-0 in pool play which advanced them into the championship game against United PDX B08 Black West. After 60 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods, teams were still tied, which sent them into kicks from the penalty mark to decide the outcome. After 14 penalty kicks by each team, the Timbers 08B Red team finished as runners-up.

The Thorns North FC 05 Girls (Red) played in the Mt. Hood tournament this weekend, going 2-1-1. The Thorns tied 1-1 with the goal being scored by Ella Morton.

Game 4, the Thorns won 5-2 with Abella Voight, Olivia Azzolini, and Sam Beamis scoring one goal each, and Elise Frazier scoring two goals.

The Thorns North 07 girls finished 2nd at the Mt. Hood Challenge in Portland this past weekend. In the first game of the tournament, the Thorns tied FME Fusion G07 2-2 with goals from Natalie Thompson and Paige Hunt. They went on to beat WUFC G07 1-0, with the game winning goal scored by Kennedy Hartzell. In the the third game of pool play the Thorns beat THELO United G07 Vipers 3-2. Kyndall Dolin, Natalie Thompson and Kennedy Hartzell scored and goalkeeper Ellie McGowan’s PK save in the final minutes preserved the victory and advanced the Thorns to the championship game. The Thorns battled DMCV Sharks G07, from San Diego, Calif., in the finals only to come up short with a 2-0 loss.

The Timbers North FC 05 Boys Red team started off their 2019-2020 season with four wins and the championship title for the U15 Boys Gold Division of the Mt. Hood Championship this past weekend in The Portland area. The team is coached this season by Head Coach Julio Morales. On Friday, the Timbers beat Santos FC 05 3-2 on goals by Bryce Allred, Isaac Fritts and Gunner Larson. Assists were by Cooper Prohaska and Seth Johnson, with Miles Taylor finishing with four saves.

On Saturday, the Timbers beat the Eastside Timbers FC 05. Landon Lee scored two goals, with Prohaska, Allred and Gavin Jones scoring one goal apiece. Later on Saturday, the Timbers beat Cuervo FC 05 5-0 on two goals by Allred and Prohaska, and one goal by Gunner Larson.

Miles Taylor had the shutout in goal in both games with excellent defensive support from Luke Orozco, Stirling Roget, Jacob Ukich, Caden Thompson, Chet Hanna, Jayce Simmet and Sebastian Baker

On Sunday, the Timbers beat Woodburn FC 2-1 in the championship match at the Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation Complex in Beaverton.

Prohaska scored both goals on Sunday on assists from Allred and London Lee.

- FIGURE SKATING

Local skaters traveled to Wenatchee from July 31 to Aug. 4 to compete in the U.S. Figure Skating National Showcase.

A group of 22 skaters represented Lake City Figure Skating — a subset of Spokane Figure Skating Club — in the event that combines theatrical artistry with the skill and technique of figure skating.

Presley Faherty (pre-juvenile light), Holly Clark (dramatic) and Jay Wilson (pre-juvenile dramatic) advanced to the finals.

Faherty won her classification to advance to the Junior Parade of Champions, also winning the Haley Rose Gans ‘Skate with all your Heart’ award.

Other medalists included: Amy Bartoo (second, adult dramatic, bronze); Emily Dodd and Zori Rouleau in third in pre-juvenile duet.

Lake City Figure Skating offers a wide variety of skills classes for the beginner skater to the advanced athlete.
