Tragedy in Glacier Park as man dies trying to save his dog in Pray Lake

An 64-year-old Edmonton, Alberta, man was recovered from Pray Lake Aug. 6 in Glacier National Park after he apparently drowned trying to save his dog. He was later identified as Wales Wai Ming Poon.
The dog, a Maltese, died as well.
According to a Park press release, at approximately 4:30 p.m. Aug. 6, rangers received a report of a man drowning in the lake, which is adjacent to the Two Medicine campground and about 100 yards from the ranger station.
Witnesses reported that they had seen the man struggling in the lake, and then go underneath the small body of water.
National Park Service and visitor boats searched the lake until dark and then resumed the next day.
His body was recovered the morning of Aug. 7 in approximately 30 feet of water using a Remote Operated Vehicle brought in by the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office dive team.
Poon was visiting the Park with family members, Glacier officials said.
